  • Welcome

Welcome to The Gathering Place.  We are a ministry that reaches out in service and fellowship to communities beyond our four walls.  Our recent alternative spring break trip gave us the opportunity to serve others in need. This experience gave all who participated memories which will last a lifetime.

A Special Thank you to the Appleton Odd Fellows

    Appleton Odd Fellows

We want to take a moment to personally thank the members of the Appleton Odd Fellows for their financial support. Their financial support has helped us purchase a new laptop computer for our Campus Minister. A thank you also goes out to the Konemic Lodge No. 47 Odd Fellows for their donation of marketing items that will be distributed throughout events during the first few weeks of the fall semester here at UW Oshkosh.

You can learn more about the Appleton Odd Fellows by visiting their website at http://www.appletonoddfellows.org. Thank you for your support!

  • Annual Meeting Held 2/09/14

On February 9, the Gathering Place held its annual meeting at Peace Lutheran Church in Oshkosh. Beginning at 1:00 PM, the agenda included a student led review of the ministry; the business meeting and a student-led worship.

During the meeting, the 2014-15 budget was approved. The Board welcomed 3 new members, and the framework for the 2014 fiscal year (Feb. 1, 2014 to Jan. 31, 2015) was introduced. The framework included a growing need for alumni relations, increased outreach and greater fundraising efforts for the continued viability of the ministry. Presentations, budget documents and other resources from the event are available here.

The board welcomed Molly Haggardy-Brewster, Kate Hood & Ken Redmer to the board. Each member will serve a three-year term.

  • Through a Student’s Eyes

SarahWoodMy name is Sarah Wood; I am currently the Hospitality intern at Lutheran Campus Ministry at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, the Gathering Place.  As the Hospitality intern I make the meals twice a week so our students can enjoy a home cooked meal before worship.   We have free soup on Mondays and welcome+ anyone who would like to come.  One big part of my job is coordinating with local churches and faith leaders to partner with our ministry.  I also am responsible for outreach to fellow students and promote the ministry.  This internship is great for me, because it gives me a chance to give back to The Gathering Place, a ministry that really changed my life.

I have been a part of the Gathering Place since my sophomore year of college in 2011.  My friend Amanda invited me to worship one day and I have been attending ever since.  The Gathering Place has allowed me to grow in my faith in a friendly, welcoming, and safe place.  I went to church with my family until I was 8 years old and then we stopped attending.  A few of my friends helped me learn about God and faith my senior year of high school.   My friends started a summer bible study and I attended that and read the bible on my own.  I was always seeking to know more about God and the relationship I could have with him.  After having Amanda bring me to the Gathering Place my relationship with God has become so much stronger than it ever was.   I learned about Jesus, and what He did for us, and experienced God’s love first hand through the interactions I had with the other people who were a part of this ministry.   I have grown in my faith here at The Gathering Place and have also grown as a person and made lasting, important friendships with other Christian students.  This campus ministry is great place for students to talk, be themselves, and enjoy the life God has blessed them with.

Another amazing opportunity that the Gathering Place offers for the students is an Alternative Spring Break trip.  The Gathering Place has done a big service trip every March since they opened their doors here on campus.   I have gone the last two years. The first year I went, we went to Asheville, North Carolina and the second year I went, we went to Buffalo, New York.  These trips allow us to grow as a ministry while growing with God at the same time.  We were able to help others in need, and had the opportunity to grow in our outward faith.

We are blessed to have your prayers and I want to ask you to continue to pray for us at The Gathering Place.  We are also writing to you hoping that you will be able to support us financially.  As always we find ourselves operating on very low funds.  As a student leader of this ministry, I want to do everything I can to keep this ministry going strong.  For that reason, any financial support would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to thank you on behalf of all of us at The Gathering Place for your support and consideration.  We look forward to hearing from you.  We would also like to invite you to stop by during office hours Monday through Thursday from 9:30 am – 3:30 pm.  You are also welcome to join us for worship on Monday or Thursday nights at 6.  If you have any questions or want to stop by for a visit, give us a call.  Everyone is welcome at The Gathering place.  God bless you!

    Yours in Christ,

    Sarah Wood

    Friends,

In this Season of Giving, will you make a year end gift to the Gathering Place?

Please donate today! It is only with your support today that we will be able to maintain daily operations and continue to support the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of students throughout Oshkosh tomorrow. We ask that you follow your heart. Share with your parishioners, your Church Council and consider supporting your young adult ministry today so we can continue to provide ministry into the new year.

Why do we need your help?

    • We are a specialized young adult ministry that has served young adults and the Oshkosh community since 1967.
    • Our congregation of young adults are not able financially support the ministry. Rather, their stewardship supports ministry outreach on campus, relationship-building with our fellow congregations and growing and leading in worship and other ministry events.
    • We provide free, home cooked meals Mondays and Thursday during the academic year.
    • Our worship services invite all to gather on Monday and Thursday evenings.
    • It costs $125 to prepare weekly meals.
    • $1,500 is needed weekly to provide for our operations and outreach services.

  • We Need Your Support!

    We need your help.

The last year has provided us immense opportunities of growth through our service to others. We have seen our worship services double. We have been blessed with a strong and vibrant staff and board, and we are even more blessed to be preparing to welcome 3,600 incoming freshmen to UW Oshkosh in just a few short weeks.

While we have continued to grow our family, we have doubled our worship services. This means that we have also doubled the amount of home cooked dinners that we prepare for students who come for a welcoming meal, and to hear God’s word. While the year has provided us with incredible opportunities, insurmountable growth potential and a commitment to self and community; we have been challenged throughout this incredible journey.  As the purpose for our need grows, we continue to face the financial realities – our financial support has continued to lessen. Unlike a church, this young adult congregation is unable to financially support this ministry.  Therefore The Gathering Place must find its own sources of income and support.  And, we cannot do it without your support.

Please consider donating today. Your financial support today helps us to maintain normal operations, and continue to support the spiritual, emotional and physical needs of students throughout Oshkosh. We ask that you do what your heart sings. Share with your parishioners, your Church Council and consider supporting your youth ministry today.
